Deb Carmichael is retiring after 6 years at the helm of KCT

Deb has announced that it is time for her to step down as KCT’s Executive Director. For nearly six years, she has led KCT, watching kids and teens build confidence, leadership skills, and compassion through service.  “This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

So now we need your help. This role could be a wonderful fit for someone who enjoys collaboration, organization, mentoring young people, and community-building. KCT is currently an all-volunteer nonprofit, so this is not a paid position, but it is deeply meaningful and generally requires fewer than 12 hours per week.

A Little About the Role

• KCT is a nonprofit volunteer organization based in Sammamish that creates weekly community service opportunities for kids and teens across Redmond, Sammamish, and Issaquah.
• Our projects include invasive species removal, making blankets for the homeless, assembling LEGO giftbags for children of struggling families, and many other hands-on service events.
• KCT is largely youth-led, with high school students managing much of the organization through our youth board.
• The Executive Director works closely with the youth board, mentors student leaders, and heads a small management team.
• The Executive Director also serves on the KCT Board of Directors.

What Are We Looking For?

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Belief and experience in mentoring and allowing young people to grow through their mistakes.
• Someone who can attend weekly meetings and events, typically between 3:30–9:00 PM.
• Comfort using &/or learning technology tools like WordPress, Slack, and ClickUp.

What Would the Transition Look Like?

While Deb will be stepping down as Executive Director, she will be still be actively involved on the Board of Directors and will fully support and help guide the new Executive Director through the transition and beyond. That said, we are hoping that the new Executive Director will put their own stamp on KCT much as it has evolved over the last six years, changing with new opportunities and the creativity of each new Youth Board.
