Summer Fun with KCT

High Schoolers! Have you experienced summer boredom? You know, that feeling of being so bored that nothing sounds appealing anymore? Keep reading. I am having a blast beating summer boredom with Kids Coming Together.

KCT During the School Year

My name is Ioana and I have been on the Kids Coming Together Youth Board for over a year now. During the school year, I love what I do. Volunteering with KCT gives me a chance to give back to my community and connect with others my age, as well as being a welcome break from the endless stream of homework. I’m sure you all know what I mean!

Summer is Exciting & Fun and Then… Not So Much!

During the summer, KCT isn’t just a break from homework, it’s often a lifeline. Everyone knows the feeling. School has been out for a month, and most of the friends who promised to text on the last day have been silent – family trips, camps, jobs!  In past summers, I’ve been stuck at home all day, watching the same shows hundreds of times and occasionally picking up some summer homework. Everyday crawls by slower, and soon I find myself wishing for school to start again. How’d that happen?!  These were my summers before I discovered KCT.

A New Event Each Week

Now, the days of summer boredom are long gone. Every week, I have a new event to look forward to. These events can be anything from beach cleanups, to making dog toys, to cooking fun recipes – often things I can play around with at home too. KCT events are the perfect way to get out of the house in the summer, do something unique, and meet some new people while having fun. Honestly, going to summer KCT events has become the best part of my week.

Building relationships through community service

Kids Coming Together (KCT) is a volunteer-led nonprofit that brings kids and teens together to build friendships and strengthen our community through service. At a time when young people face increasing social isolation, KCT creates safe, welcoming spaces for youth in grades 3–8 to practice social skills, build confidence, and connect with others while giving back. Events are led by high school student volunteers, who gain leadership experience and earn service hours as they guide and mentor younger participants.
