A Hobby That Came Back to Life

My name is Hartej, and I have been volunteering with KCT for over a year now. I absolutely love playing with Legos. It’s been almost ten years, and I still get the same excitement from building sets as I did when I first started. But over the past few years, I have gotten busier, and I didn’t really have time to sit down and build anymore. So when I got the chance to join a Lego event, I signed up immediately and was honestly really excited to go.

When I showed up, I was so happy to see how many kids were there. The whole room felt super energetic. I sat down and started putting together a little car. Nothing crazy, just some random pieces and a couple of wheels that didn’t match. But it was fun, and that was the point. Walking around the room was even better. Every table had something different going on. One group was building this huge airport, and it actually looked pretty cool. They had a little runway, trees on the side, and a little plane too!

My table had everyone sharing pieces to make their own little cars. Everyone had different sets of wheels to work with, and even if the cars looked a little wonky, they still looked awesome. The whole event was just so fun to go to and help out with. It was so cool to see everyone making their little builds around the room, and it really was fun for both the kids and the teen volunteers. From this event, I was not only building little structures but also building new moments and experiences with others. Knowing that all of our little builds will be going to Kidvantage, as gifts to kids who don’t have much, adds a lot to an activity I have loved for so long. This event showed me the true values of KCT’s mission: connecting kids and teens to enrich the community, help others, and create meaningful moments.
